M.C Esher

Maurits Cornelis Esher was born on June 17,1898 in Leeuwarden. M.C Esher was the youngest of siblings. His nickname was "Mauk." Born as a sickly child was forced to go to a special school at the age of seven. In secondary school his grades were very low so he had to repeat his grades. His family moved to Arnhem were he took carpentry and piano lessons till he was thirteen. In 1919 Esher attended Haarlem School of Architecture and Decorative Arts. He married in 1924 to Jetta Umiker. Esher after his surgery did not paint to more. In March 27, 1970 he passed away. He was known for his woodcuts, lithographs and mezzatints.

Kite Runner II Discussion

This book is about friendship, racism, betraying, wanting love and self-conscience. So far Hassan one of the protagonist has been raped and his best friend Amir didn't help him. Amir is a rich Pushtu and Hassan is a poor Hazara. Hassan is the son of Ali who is servant of Baba (Amir's father ). They were raised together, but during time Amir became jealous of Hassan because Baba admired him. Now Baba and Amir left to America because of the war. They are poor here. So far Baba has cancer and Amir is going to get married to Soraya. After his marrige Baba, Amir's father died. Well long time passed. He received a letter from Rahim Khan from Pakistan telling him that he is dying. He wants Amir to do a favor for him. When Amir arrived to Pakistan he discovered all the truth of his life. He found out that Hassan was his half brother and that he passed away. He also found out that he had a nephew named Sohrab. He goes through alot to find Sohrab and to keep him. He finds himself fighting Assef which is the person who has Sohrab. Assef is the guy that Amir feared the most since he was there when he raped Hassan. Know he is fighting his fear and finally cleaning his guilt by helping his nephew out of this torment that he was living. At the end they all end up happy. Shorab had a home and Amir finally could live in peace with himself.

Today we discussed the book with Words Alive. I loved the discussion it was wonderful. We all participated and there were great comments on the book. Everybody gave out their opinion and answered the questions correctly.Also we were given great Afghan foods. My favorite part of the discussion was when we all were given a theme and we had to find examples of the book relating to the theme. I loved this book. I got really into it and also understood the situation.

Analyzing a Novel: The Kite Runner

1. Which characters change as the story proceeds? Do they change for the better or the worse, and how do they change specifically?

-Through the story the character that changes the most is Amir. Amir in the begging was a coward, selfish and ungrateful. He took advantage of Hassan's pure and gentle heart. He didn't appreciate what all the things that Hassan did for him, like standing up for him and being a loyal friend. At the end of the story Amir is introduced to the end of his guiltiness and is given the opportunity to make everything right for the first time. He takes in Sohrab, his nephew, and actually fights his enemy for him, knowing that he didn't have a chance. At first he was not sure what to do with Sohrab but he saw the same loyalty and bravery in Sohrab's heart just like his father Hassan had. and new that life was giving him the opportunity to make things right. So he stayed with him.


2.Who was your favorite character and why? Which character did you dislike most throughout the story and why?

-My favorite character in the novel was Hassan. I never thought that someone could be so loyal and caring even though they were treated the worsts way by their best friend. He was honest brave and even through what he has been through he still cared for Amir.
-The character I disliked was Amir. Even though he changed at the end it still doesn't forgive his how much of a coward he was when it came up to standing up for Hassan. Hassan always stood up for him. Amir even though he seen that Hassan's dignity was getting thrown in the trash he still had no shame for watching Hassan get hurt.

3.Which is your most favorite scene in the book? In the movie?

-My favorite scene in the book was when Amir and Sohrab were flying kites and Amir decided to run the kite and get it for Sohrab. It reminded me of the time in the book when Amir's loyal friend Hassan ran the kite for him and even though he had struggle to keep the kite he never let that kite go.

4.Who is the protagonist in this story? Who is the antagonist? Give an example of a scene from the story that would support your label for each character.

- The protagonists in this story is Amir,Hassan, Baba, and Sohrab. The antagonist is Assef.
In the story when Amir is trying to save Sohrab from Assef's harassment. Amir new that he was going to lose the battle but even though he still fought. At the end Sohrab decides to stop the fight by trowing him a metal ball into Assef's eye with a slighshot and saving Amir's life.

The Impact of Fundamentalism on Human Rights

Fundamentalist=refers to a belief in a strict adherence to a set of basic principles (often religious in nature), sometimes as a reaction to perceived doctrinal compromises with modern social and political life.

I believe that two rule that states, "Females may not study at schools, universities, or any other educational institution," is the most oppressive because women should have the right to study wherever they wish so they can progress. they should also have the right to liberty to do what ever they want.

I believe that the rule that states "No one can listen to music," is the most oppressive because no one cant live with out music. People that don't listen to music fill themselves with hatred and very grumpy person. In this religion minus will be dead beacuse you cant do anything.

Resolutions for the New Year

For this year 2010 I have many things that I would like to accomplish.
1. I would love to graduate this year and get my High School Diploma. I am going to come to school everyday to get my credits and I am also going to work very hard and make sure that I do all my work.
2. For my second resolution this year I would like to lose some weight. I already signed up at the gym. I am attending everyday and I am going to start eating healthier.
3. For my third resolution I am going to try to find new ways to be independent so that I wont have to depend on my mother or anybody else. I am going to finish high school and I am going to find a decent job so that I could support my baby and give him the best.

Kite Runner I-Discussion

In the story so far, "The Kite Runner" by Kahled Hosseini, Amir and Hassan are best friends but are separated by society. Hassan is a brave and loyal person while in the other half Amir is a coward and selfish. Hassan is the son of the servant Ali and Amir is the son of a rich and respected man "Baba." Amir and Hassan grew up together just like Ali and Baba were. Hassan always stood up for Amir. He was loyal and honest. Amir was always jealous of Hassan because of his bravery and how much he was admired by Baba. In the story Hassan gets raped by Assef, a bully who hates Hazaras, and Amir just lets it happen. Through the story Amir feels guilty and cant bare to see Hassan in the eyes, so he tries anyway to get rid of Ali and Hassan until he finally did. Baba and Amir move to America where they are poor. Baba gets cancer and wants Amir to get married to General Thahiri's daughter Soraya "his swap meet princess."Know we are waiting for what is going to happen next.

In the group discussion a lot of things when on. Everybody was into the story and the characters. I participated and played Baba. A lot of great questions were asked. I loved this story and I cant wait to see what happen next.

What were the moments that stood up to you?

The moments that stood up to me was when Precios was at the welfare office and confronted her mother and stood up and walked out with her faced up high and her two beautiful children.

How did it make you feel?

It made me feel a proud and warm feeling inside. For me this proved that she is a very strog women and that she loves her kids. She wanted to leave all of it behind and teached her kids, what she has never been tought, and give them the love that she never received.

How will they cause you to think about things differently in the future?

This movie opened up my mind to know that I can overcome all the struggles I am going through and to know that there is someone now that I should be strong for. My baby is always going to look up to me and he needs to see me strong and most of all happy.

Should Marine Mammals be kept in Captivity

I believe that marine mammals should not be captured to be use just for show. The marine mammals should be left free and let them live the way that nature wanted them to live. These animals were ment to be in the wild, not to be kept in cages and in shadowed tanks. The marine mamals have to bond with there own species and be with their families in the ocean.

These animals are being captured against their will and most of the time killed "accidentally." When capturing tuna fish, in most ocassions dolphins are captured as well and die beacuse of the nets that humans use. Many baby dolphins are separated from there mothers and are forced to grow up alone.

Marine mammals are usually in groups are very united. Because of all the capturing and miss use of the mamals many f them are separated from there gruop and may suffer of loneliness. Marine mammals are suppose to grow up being united and with their own. I think that these animals should not be separated from their families just to entertain and gain money of people.

Many people say that they capture these innnocent creatures for educational use but I belive that they only use them beacuse they are so selfish and only think about themselves and money. I am totally against this. They never think about what these animals are suffering and going through. I wonder how they would feel if they were separated form their enviroment and put up just for show.

Mammals should not be kept in capttivity and should be in liberty and let go free. These entertainmet events using marine mammals should not be able to got through with it. Yeah I admit that its cool to see a fish jump. But to let them suffer just for fun I dont agree with it.

Giving Everything for One

How to begin, well like every average teenager I fell in love. Thinking that he was everything knowing that it was just a stupid thing to think. Well he loves me I ain't going to lie. He has given up everything too. But I had a choice too when I got pregnant, either get rid of the baby or give up everything. My liberty and my time. I had a choice, no one could tell me what to do or think. I was just worried. What am I going to do and what how am I going to do it. Having my baby was the best thing that has ever happen to me. Having someone that I made and that I carried for 9 months. Forming his hands, eyes, and heart is something that I would never take regranted. He is the light of my day and the joy of my life. I am just so happy. Even though people think is wrong is something that happens. To think that he would change the way I see life and the way I think. I stopped from being a little girl to become myself to a women that is wiiling to give up everything for just him.

Rihanna in Domestic Violence

Rihanna did a excellent job by leaving Chris Brown, not only for her safety but to leave a better example to all the women even including men to get away from a unhealthy realtionship from the first sign. Rihanna stated that "He had no soul in his eyes," for me this is saying that he practically didnt care of what was happening and in that moment he was not thinking about his career or most important of all of Rihanna. He didnt care what she felt he didnt care if he was hurting her he was just thinking about his "machismo".I know that Rihanna leaving him was the best idea beacuse once a man hits youhe would always hit you again and again no matter what they say. I believe that the realtionship was turning into a cycle and if wasent broken it wold never be. Thanks Rihanna for setting a good example for all the teenagers that are going or went trhough the same thing.

GOALS

My goals for this upcoming semester are

• Finish up my English credits by coming to school on time and trying to earn more bonus points
• Get my last U.S history credit by getting more minutes and also by doing history in a history book
• Finish my biology class to get my last credit by going more to class
• Get a job by applying any where I can

Sonia Sotomayor

Sonia was born on June 25, 1954 in the Bronx, New York. She is Puerto Rican. Sotomayor faced many challenges in her childhood and when she was growing up. At the age of 8 yrs old she was diagnosed with diabetes. When she was 9yrs old her father died and her mother had to raise her and her younger brother by herself. Sotomayor's mother Selena Sotomayor believed that education was above everything and did everything she can so that Sonia and her brother could attend the bestest schools. Sonia attended catholic school named Spellman High. She graduated with honors in 1972 and was accepted in ivy-league Princeton University. She graduated Princeton in 1976 and entered tat same year to Yale Law journal. She received her J.D in 1979 and became a lawyer after passing her test in 1980. She stated working as an assistant in the Manhattan borough of New York City. With all her accomplishment in her carrier she graved the attention of Senator Edward M. Kennedy and the U.S Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. President George H.W Bush that nominated many times. Know in 2009 with our great President Barrack Obama it happened again, but this time he nominated her for Supreme Court. Sonia Sotomayor is an inspiration to all of us Latinas. This makes us feel that we do have voice and we could accomplish anything if we really put out mind and heart in it.

CALLIGRAPHY

Japanese calligraphy is also know as "Shodo" meaning "The way of witting."
The Japanese calligraphy started in China in the sixth century. Japanese adopted the many styles of Chinese calligraphy which originated in the Qin dynasty during 207-221 BC.
The methods of making brushes, ink and paper came along with the calligraphy.
Calligraphy consist of hanshi (thin calligraphy paper), fude (brush), suzuri (black container for ink), and bokuju (ink).

Calligraphy is one of the unique arts from the East. Calligraphy is used in many different ways and for many different subjects. There are five basic styles in Calligraphy, tensho(seal script), reisho(clerical script ), kaisho(square style), gyosho(semi cursive style), sosho(cursive style).
